In the year 1900, there were approximately 315,000 Orangutans on the planet. Today it is estimated that there are only 60,000 left in the wild. But you can help save them from extinction by protecting the habitat in which they live: the rainforests of South East Asia. Read on.
Loss Of Habitat
Orangutans live exclusively in the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra in South-East Asia. They are in severe danger of extinction due to logging.
Logging is responsible for emitting a large proportion of the carbon dioxide that is driving climate change today. This is because, when trees are cut down and burned, the carbon dioxide they have absorbed from the atmosphere during their lifetime is released.
